I want to do more with Drupal, because building small sites with it is good training to build up to more advanced skills. I build sites for smallish-budget clients. It made me think of the best of Drupal could merge with the best of Wordpress, we would have the most incredible php based CMS to exist! Simply because the core isn’t well thought out.ĭuring the Wordpress build I kept scratching my head wondering why something so beautiful and easy to use is so amateur at its core. Drupal you can say “yes we can do that” not true in Wordpress. It’s nearly impossible to build anything beyond a simple blog site or a simple 20 product commerce site in Wordpress without being thoroughly confused and guaranteed disorganized. As an afterthought add on it also doesn’t integrate well.

Nothing is fieldable, there is no well thought out structure to their core, which makes content management a nightmare! There are plaid solutions but they don’t play nice with other stuff. You CANNOT easily leverage your data and spit out views-like pages. Or the fact that you can’t add fields to content types without a third party paid plugin that have zero compatibility. For example, you can’t set file paths for media fields. Most likely due to the marketplace success, Wordpress will not do a much needed overhaul of their core. Wordpress’s biggest problem is it’s core. (There’s even a woocommerce iOS app that anyone can use to manage sales in the go!) Basically, any api connection to an external source is flawless compared to drupal. Their commerce setup is so much more robust than drupal commerce as en example. The fact that people can make a career out of paid plugins means some really amazing features are being built! This puts Wordpress light years ahead of Drupal in regards to robust features. This marketplace however is a good thing too. As an example You might find 20+ modules for google analytics connection, Nd the most popular has you sending all your GA data to the plugin makers via api, so over 200k Wordpress sites are willingly having Their data be mined.disgraceful!!! This causes duplicate work, and multiple options for the same solution. The first and obvious problem is the marketplace paid plugins. I truly wish the best of both words could collide, because each platform has something amazing and something terrible. I built a site in Wordpress recently and it was a headache! But it was also a joy.
